You need four inputs: quota, closed revenue, commission rate, and accelerator tiers. Calculate attainment % (closed ÷ quota), then use an IF or IFS formula to apply the right rate based on attainment — for example, 8% at 100%+ and 6% below 100%. The CommissionStarter template pre-builds all of this logic so you only need to enter your deals.
A tiered accelerator is a multiplier applied to a rep's commission rate once they hit or exceed a quota threshold. For example, a rep might earn 8% up to 100% of quota, then 1.5× that rate (12%) on any revenue above 100%. Accelerators reward overperformance and are a standard part of SaaS sales comp plans.
A clawback lets a company recover previously paid commissions if a deal churns within a set window — typically 90–180 days after close. Clawbacks protect against reps closing bad-fit customers. The Clawback Tracker tab logs churned deals and auto-deducts the amounts from future payroll runs.
